桌面出版的工作可能会涉及不同的操作系统。在 Mac
操作系统下，大多数的文件都没有特定的后缀，文件的类型可以从桌面的文件图符中识别。而在 Windows
操作系统下，各种文件均带有相应的后缀。由于桌面出版中的文件常常会通过网络或是跨平台传送，给各种类型的文件添加后缀有助于避免出现不必要的问题。
